AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ASI

To achieve the below objectives, ASI implements a range of activities and interventions under six programme areas that are implemented by a dedicated team of members and volunteers drawn from different professional backgrounds.

To improve access to basic health care services to disadvantaged elderly people in The Gambia

To promote the re-integration of the elderly in Gambian social life

To promote the re-integration of the elderly in Gambian social life

To advocate for the rights of the elderly in The Gambia.

KEY PROGRAMME AREAS

Following the successful pilot of the initiative from January 2010 to December 2011 in the Greater Banjul Area, ASI has now expanded its scope and coverage to cover the following six programme areas for intervention

  1. Health Promotion and Social Care Programme
  2. Elders Right, Advocacy and Protection Programme
  3. Culture and Inter-generational Programme
  4. School and Youth Programme
  5. Micro-finance Programme
  6. Training and Capacity Strengthening Programme

WHAT MOTIVATES US

Our members and volunteers are motivated by the following

  1. The passion to make a positive impact in the lives of older persons
  2. The opportunity to interact with and learn from older persons
  3. The joy in meeting people of similar interests
  4. The opportunity for career development through the acquisition of relevant skills and experience
